Mattawan State Representative Beth Griffin is expecting to see some fresh work on southwest Michigan roads soon. She tells WSJM News Michigan lawmakers last month approved extra road funding money for the state to the tune of $175 million.

“We can expect that additional $175 million statewide, which equates to just under $700 coming to Van Buren County sometime, I’m guessing, in mid-April,” Griffin said. “That’ll just help fill the potholes, help repair some of the culverts that were damaged with the flooding.”

Griffin tells us that extra $175 million was money left over from last year, so this doesn’t represent any new tax dollars. She says the legislature set aside $669,000 for Van Buren County, along with $16,000 for Bangor, $20,000 for Hartford, $41,000 for South Haven, $17,000 for Lawton, $20,000 for Mattawan, and $26,000 for Paw Paw.
