Michigan House Speaker Tom Leonard is going through a report from a bipartisan House panel on Michigan State University’s response to the sexual abuse conducted by former sports doctor Larry Nassar. WSJM News asked state Representative Kim LaSata about what she learned in the information provided by MSU regarding Nassar.

“There was information with regard to Nassar, some of the exams and things he did, that was destroyed,” LaSata says. As far as the most shocking revelations to come out of the information from the university, the Bainbridge Township Republican says “No one protected those young women. That’s the most troubling thing for me.”

LaSata says she is working on new legislation to strengthen Title IX regulations and to ensure all students are as safe as possible on campus. The Senate has already passed a package of bills inspired by the Nassar scandal, and more is on the way.
