The Coloma Comets are the winners of state Senator John Proos’ annual Southwest Michigan Spirit Tournament for 2018. They beat out the River Valley Mustangs in the final round of the tournament, which is a March Madness-like competition Proos tells WSJM News he holds each year to test the school spirit of communities throughout his district.

“The Coloma Comets come out the victors, having done an amazing job showing that they in fact are the 2018 southwest Michigan spirit champions,” Proos said. “Congratulations to the Coloma Comets.”

School districts are invited to send Proos photos of students proving their spirit each spring. They’re then pitted against each other in a bracket. As the champion, Coloma High School will be presented with a traveling trophy from Proos and will also receive a special tribute.
