$20,000 in challenge grants are being offered by Whirlpool to four local FIRST Robotics teams as they prepare to head to Detroit next week for a competition. Whirlpool Vice President of Communications Jeff Noel tells WSJM News teams from St. Joseph, Lakeshore, Niles, and Berrien Springs will be at the FIRST Robotics World Finals starting next Thursday.

“What we have agreed to do is provide a $20,000 community challenge grant so that these teams can raise the funds they need to be able to send their folks to the World Competition, compete in that competition and cover the expenses that go with putting on such an outstanding and exciting event,” Noel said.

Noel tells us Whirlpool wants to encourage those local teams learning math, science, engineering, and technology in a fun way. Anyone who wants to help one of the teams reach $5,000 to get that Whirlpool match should call its high school.
