Combating the fight against opioid addiction before it starts. That’s the idea behind a new bill in Lansing. State Representative Joseph Bellino tells Michigan News Network he has a plan that would require certain prescriptions to come in locked vials that can administer pills at specific intervals. Bellino admits to once being a cocaine addict himself.

“My addiction and quitting was ten times easier than what the opioid people go through,” Bellino said. “The cravings is different, the satisfaction is not there when they try other stuff. So, we’ve got to try a lot of different measures.”

Bellino, a Monroe Republican, says his locking vials would be low-cost. He feels the requirement would be another tool to help avoid addiction before it starts without being too burdensome.
