A recent study of the community’s water system in St. Joseph is helping city officials better plan for repairs. St. Joe Public Works Director Tom MacDonald tells WSJM News the city commission in September hired a company that came in and used specialized sounding equipment to find underground leaks. The survey found seven leaks, which were causing about five million gallons of water per year to be wasted.

“It means that we’re going to be able to repair these leaks and not waste water, which has an impact on our distribution system, on our plant having to produce 5 million extra gallons of water if those leaks went undetected, as well as preventing damage to other infrastructure,” MacDonald said.

Most of the underground leaks have been fixed, and the rest will be soon. MacDonald tells us other communities to be served by the water system will be tested next.
