A 911 call made from an Apple Watch enabled first responders to rescue a man who fell into the Black River in South Haven on Monday.

It happened shortly after 8 a.m. at the River Norie Yacht Club when the 61-year-old man slipped from the dock while getting out of his boat. Due to the cold water, the man was barely able to hold on to the swim platform while his wife held his head above water. She managed to call 911 with her smart watch.

Responding to the scene were an on-call South Haven Area Emergency Services firefighter, two Michigan State Police troopers, and two South Haven police officers. They pulled the victim out of the water, and he was able to talk with them.

The man was treated by South Haven Area Emergency Services paramedics and taken to the Bronson South Haven emergency room. He is expected to recover.
