Voters headed to the polls on Tuesday is some communities around Berrien County, in all cases deciding school funding. The biggest was a bond for Lakeshore Public Schools, which voters rejected. The vote was 2,300 no to 1,907 yes. The district was seeking $21 million in bonds for building improvements, the purchase of equipment, and work on athletic facilities and playgrounds. Now, it’s back to the drawing board.

Elsewhere, Coloma Community Schools sought a millage of 1.25 mills for a sinking fund to allow for building improvements and technology purchases expected to generate about $480,000 per year. It was approved. Watervliet Public Schools also sought one-mill for district operations, and that one passed as well. Finally, voters for Berrien Springs Public Schools approved an operating millage renewal by a healthy margin.
