There are now just four Democrats set to appear on their party’s primary ballot for Congress in the Sixth District this August. On Friday, the State Board of Canvassers held up an opinion from the State Bureau of Elections that Paul Clements and Eponine Garrod did not turn in enough valid petition signatures to get on the ballot. The two appeared before the board at its morning meeting, and both said they felt that had collected enough signatures. The Michigan Secretary of State tells us Clements initially turned in more than 1,300 of the 1,000 needed petition signatures, but more than 300 of them were deemed invalid. Garrod turned in 1,019, leaving her much less wiggle room. 45 of her petition signatures were found to be invalid. The Democratic field for Congress in the Sixth District is now down to George Franklin, David Benac, Rich Eichholz, and Matt Longjohn.
