A protest took place Monday at the state capitol in Lansing, staged by hundreds of poor people, clergy, and others regarding water issues in Michigan. The Reverend-Dr. Liz Theoharis is co-chair of the Poor People’s Campaign. She spoke with Michigan News Network about the protest.

“About access to water, about healthcare, about adequate housing, about living wage jobs,” Theoharis said. “We also are seeing this as a long term struggle to build power among people across the state of Michigan.”

Theoharis says many people in Flint still don’t feel safe drinking or cooking with the water there. She says they are also protesting water shutoffs in Detroit.
