Ford Motor Company is buying a 105-year-old, unused train station in Detroit. Ford Executive Chairman Bill Ford sent out a message to employees Monday, saying the purchase of Michigan Central Train Station is a big move for the automaker.

“Our industry is experiencing an unprecedented time of disruption, and more than a century after my great grandfather’s assembly line revolutionized the industry, we are rethinking mobility,” Ford said.

Ford says a celebration of what is to come will take place in front of the train depot next Tuesday, June 19. The 105-year-old Michigan Central Station is a 500,000-square-foot, 18-story train station that closed in 1988.
