Even though it’s not supposed to happen until October, a new event at Love Creek County Park has attracted the attention of the Berrien County Board of Commissioners. At this week’s meeting, they discussed the new “Fat Toberfest” planned for Love Creek County Park. To be organized by Outpost Sports and the Michiana Bike Coalition, the event will be a fat tire bike ride to feature local beers and wines. That’s what concerned Berrien County Commissioner Ezra Scott, who told WSJM News booze isn’t allowed at county parks.

“If we make these ordinances and we make these laws, it’s for a reason, and you should really be adhering to them,” Scott said. “If not, why have them?”

Scott said allowing the October event at Love Creek sets a precedent. Other commissioners noted this week alcohol is allowed at parts of Silver Beach for some events. Commissioner Mamie Yarbrough said she didn’t see a problem with the Love Creek request, and the commission approved the event with Scott as the lone dissenting vote.
