Congressman Fred Upton is hailing the U.S. House for approving full funding for the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative for another year. He tells WSJM News the Trump administration tried yet again to gut the $300 million in funding for 2019, but the delegations from the Great Lakes states once again thwarted it.

“This year because of that victory by about 100 votes or so, we were able to convince the Appropriations Committee to reject again the EPA request and make sure that we got the full funding included in the bill as opposed to having a floor fight as we did last year,” Upton said.

Upton tells us the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative includes money for water quality, clean-ups, and fighting the Asian carp, among other things. He says it’s now up to the U.S. Senate to ensure the initiative gets final approval by Congress.
