Congressman Fred Upton isn’t terribly concerned there will be a government shut down this fall. President Trump has threatened one if he doesn’t get his border wall, but Upton tells WSJM News the spending plan outlined by the House provides something else.

“We have border security in both the House and Senate bill,” Upton said. “Let’s hope reasonable minds can figure this out. We don’t need a shutdown. That would be a mistake.”

Upton says the House and Senate reached a spending cap agreement with the White House last year. With that in place, he doesn’t see any reason for a government shutdown. He says if there is a shutdown, if would be around October 1.
