Former state Representative Aric Nesbitt has another win under his belt. He defeated two challengers for the Republican nomination in the 26th state Senate District, as Senator Tonya Schuitmaker is term-limited. Nesbitt called for party unity in the fall and recapped the accomplishments of the Legislature while he was in the House.

“Over the last eight years, Republicans in Michigan have concentrated on real economic reform that will drive the creation of good private-sector jobs,” Nesbitt told WSJM News. “Now we need to go on to the next level, which is continue to create jobs, balance budgets and pay down debt. Also, we need to cut the cost of auto insurance and continue to concentrate on fixing our roads and getting them up to good condition.”

Nesbitt will face Democrat Garnet Lewis in November. Lewis did not have a primary opponent. After being term-limited in the House, Nesbitt served as Michigan Lottery Commissioner before stepping down this spring to run for office.
