From the Associated Press — Michigan’s unemployment rate fell by one-tenth of a percentage point to 4.3 percent in July.
Figures released Wednesday by the Michigan Department of Technology, Management & Budget show Michigan’s jobless rate was four-tenths of a percentage point higher than the national rate of 3.9 percent last month and two-tenths of a percentage point higher than the state’s July 2017 rate of 4.5 percent. The agency says total employment in Michigan increased by 6,000 during the month while the number of unemployed fell by 7,000. Bureau of Labor Market Information and Strategic Initiatives Director Jason Palmer says Michigan’s July jobless rate was the lowest since 2000, but total employment remains about 250,000 below the level achieved then.
