Coming up next week is the second annual Trolling with the Troops event in St. Joseph and Benton Harbor. Organizer Scott Mann tells WSJM News it’s a fishing trip for veterans out in Lake Michigan. The local Steelheaders recruit boat captains to take the veterans out, and then a celebratory lunch is held after. Last year, they had 67 veterans and 17 boats.
“The veterans have been talking about it all year, and all year long, I keep getting asked the question, ‘When are we going to start sign-ups for next year? I can’t wait to go again,’”Mann said. “Everybody just has a really good time.”
Mann tells us next Friday’s Trolling with the Troops will be even better. He says they’re still taking sponsorships and donations for door prizes at next week’s lunch. That will take place at the Stevensville American Legion after the vets get back. They’ll be escorted by the U.S. Coast Guard down the St. Joseph River starting around 12:15 after the fishing trip.
