MITA VP Talks Road Construction Lockout

Michigan Infrastructure and Transportation Association VP Mike Nystrom says the employer’s group is continuing to insist that the Operating Engineers union ratify the industry’s labor contract proposal before road and bridge projects will continue.

“We’re at a point now where we had to have a unified front against the union tactics,” Nystrom tells WSJM News.

He says those tactics include striking some job sites and refusing to bargain with MITA since June 1st. He says the decision by the employers to lockout the Operating Engineers workers will have a big adverse impact on the rebuilding of Michigan roads.

“It will have a wide impact Many jobs are completely shut down. Some will continue to have progress on them.:
