Coming soon to South Haven will be a new hospital and medical complex. Bronson Healthcare South Haven COO Kirk Richardson tells WSJM News the health system is planning a $22 million investment to replace its old medical facility on South Bailey Avenue. That place was first built in the 1940s, and Richardson says the new Bronson complex will be state of the art in way that benefits patients.

“One example would be the current medical office building,” Richardson said. “It has long, narrow halls and so it is very difficult for our patients, particularly in wheelchairs, to have access and get down the hall to exam rooms. So it is going to be a lot easier access for our patients.”

Bronson is calling the new 50,000 square foot facility a “health village.”

“It’s not just a hospital anymore,” Richardson said. “We’re focused on primary care, we’re focused on wellness with the wellness center that’s across the street from the current hospital, and the education we’re providing to the community members and our patients.”

The new facility will feature the hospital, a 14-bed emergency department, lab and imaging services, a pharmacy, and medical offices on the east side of Bronson South Haven’s property. Richardson says ground could be broken next year, and it’s hoped the new facility will be complete in 2020. The old one will be torn down.
