The Michigan Department of Natural Resources is expecting the deer hunting season this year to be a strong one. DNR deer biologist Ashley Autenrieth tells WSJM News the 2018 forecast notes a robust herd this year due to favorable weather.

“We had a good growth season, and that’s led to good body conditions for most of the deer, good antler development in the bucks, and we’re seeing some really healthy fawns as well,” Autenrieth said. “That to us indicates that we’re looking at a really healthy deer herd right now.”

The DNR is expecting the number of deer taken to increase slightly from last year’s numbers, which were up more than 10% from the previous year across the state. Autenrieth says deer hunting is a $2 billion industry in Michigan. The firearm deer season starts in November, and October 1 will bring the bow season. You can find out more right here.
