There’s a new poll out from the Glengariff Group for “The Detroit News” and WDIV-TV that shows Democrat Gretchen Whitmer continues to hold a double-digit lead over Republican Bill Schuette in the race for governor. Republican Lieutenant Governor nominee Lisa Posthumus Lyons was asked on Michigan’s Big Show about the consistent lead for their opponent.

“Well, we’ve got four weeks and five days, and I say 12 points down is better than 20,” said Lyons. “We’re seeing movement in this race when we talk about the issues.”

The poll gives Whitmer and running mate Garlin Gilchrist a 47-to-35 percent lead over Schuette and Lyons. 13% are undecided, and third-party candidates have a combined 5% of the vote. In other races, U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow holds a 53-to-35 percent lead over Republican John James, Democrat Jocelyn Benson leads Republican Mary Treder Lang by 13% in the race for Secretary of State, and Democrat Dana Nessel has a 7-point lead over Republican House Speaker Tom Leonard for Attorney General. Nessel’s lead has fallen from 13-points a month ago.
