The University of Notre Dame has an annual impact of $2.46 billion on the economy of northern Indiana. The study by Econsult Solutions, however, only looked at how Notre Dame affected Elkhart, Marshall, and St. Joseph counties and ignored Berrien and Cass counties just over the border in Michigan. Notre Dame is credited with supporting nearly 17,000 jobs and home football game Saturdays are also big money makers for northern Indiana. Over the course of the season, Fighting Irish football fans are credited with pumping $185 million into the economy with $133 million of that on hotels, food, transportation and retail purchases.
