As Michiganders get set to vote on a ballot proposal that would legalize recreational marijuana, the Grand Rapids Chamber of Commerce held a summit Thursday morning to discuss the local implications. Josh Lunger is the chamber’s Director of Government Affairs. He spoke with Michigan News Network.

“This was our first ever cannabis summit, if you can believe it,” Lunger said. “Our members voiced a lot of concern about legalization. We actually have a position opposed to the statewide legalization, and so keeping that in mind, we’re still trying to say a lot of folks are expecting this to happen so we’re trying to get this information out there.”

Lunger says Grand Rapids business owners expressed concerns about how a new legalization law would effect drug-free workplace policies. They were also concerned with the potential of an over-concentration of marijuana related businesses in the city.
