The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration releasing its Winter Outlook prediction. Mike Halpert, deputy director of NOAA’s Climate Prediction Center, told Michigan News Network there’s good news for us here in Michigan.

“The outlook that was released this morning for the months of December, January, and February favor above average temperatures and below average precipitation in both the Upper Peninsula and the Lower Peninsula of Michigan,” Halpert said.

One of the primary factors in this year’s prediction is the anticipation of an El Nino forming in the Pacific in the coming months. Halpert says nationally the last four winters have been warmer than average, adding the last truly cold winter was during the 2013-14 season.
