We now know the name of the man who died in police custody in Berrien County on Monday. Berrien Springs Oronoko Township Police Chief Paul Toliver tells WSJM News he was 51-year-old Jack Lunneen of Berrien Springs. He was arrested by a Berrien Springs Oronoko Township officer and a county sheriff’s deputy in the parking lot of a bank in Berrien Springs around 1:30 a.m., and authorities say Lunneen resisted arrest and had to be physically restrained. A statement from Toliver does not indicate what the officers did to restrain him, but he says they called for an ambulance when Lunneen began having medical issues. He died at Spectrum Health Lakeland in St. Joseph about an hour later. An autopsy will be done to determine the cause of his death, and Michigan State Police are handling the investigation. Both officers are now on paid leave, as is standard procedure.
