A pregnant woman and her seven-year-old son have been killed in a house fire in southwest Michigan early this morning. White Pigeon Fire Chief Troy Andrews says six others, mostly children, were taken to the hospital and a dog was also killed. He says the house is a total loss and it’s tough.

“Our children go to school with this family, our kids are on the same sports teams. It’s very tragic for our community,” Andrews says.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Andrews says there were working smoke detectors, but it appears there might not have been enough ways for people to get out of the home.
