Governor Rick Snyder has signed legislation from state Representative Kim LaSata to expand Michigan’s OK2SAY hotline so sexual abuse and assault can now be reported through it. LaSata tells us her bill was inspired by the Larry Nassar situation. She adds OK2SAY is a natural fit for reporting sexual crimes.

“The confidential nature of the reporting system also takes into account the sensitivity surrounding these situations for victims, and assures them privacy to feel comfortable coming forward about their abuse,” LaSata said.

OK2SAY was originally established in 2014 as a method of anonymously reporting criminal activity at schools. The 24-hour system has been expanded to include other crimes and has received more than 16,000 reports. LaSata says allowing it to take reports of sexual abuse will help keep the state’s students safe.
