A Benton Harbor man is facing charges following a two-vehicle head-on crash in Van Buren County on January 12 that killed a 6-year-old girl and a 73-year-old woman. The Van Buren County Sheriff’s Department tells us the crash happened on Red Arrow Highway in Hartford Township when the vehicle driven by 23-year-old Jose Humberto Canedo crossed the center line. Killed were 73-year-old Mary Ann Fender of Paw Paw and 6-year-old Skylinn Salinas. Fender was the driver of the other vehicle, while Salinas was a passenger in Canedo’s vehicle. Canedo was arrested this week on a warrant for failing to appear in court for a show cause hearing on a original charge of operating while intoxicated. Two other people hurt in the crash are in stable condition.
