STRANGER FINDS AND RETURNS LOST ENGAGEMENT RING

A North Carolina couple who lost their engagement ring on a beach in Costa Rica now believe in miracles and the kindness of strangers.

Michele Arias and her fiance, Doug Cotty, were on vacation and enjoying a day at the beach. Michele says she put her diamond engagement ring in Doug’s shirt pocket for safe keeping and somehow it fell out.

When they realized the ring was gone, they frantically searched in the sand around them but couldn’t find it. Eventually they gave up and figured it was gone forever. They left Costa Rica the next day and headed home.

But Michele wasn’t completely ready to give up hope. She went on a Costa Rica community Facebook page and appealed for help.

One person who saw her plea was David Harris, an American who now lives in Costa Rica near the beach where Michele lost her ring. He also happened to have a metal detector, which he used to find the ring.

Harris could have kept the buried treasure, but instead he sent Michele a message and told her he had her ring.

Michele then arranged to have a private courier pick up the ring from Harris and bring it to her friend’s parents, who happened to be vacationing in Costa Rica. Days later, it was back on her finger. (The Charlotte Observer)
