A student essay contest has been launched by Talons Out Honor Flight. The organization takes veterans of World War II, Korea, and Vietnam to their memorials in Washington, D.C. for free, and the two winners of the essay contest will get to go along on the June 1 trip. Talons Out Honor Flight President Bobbie Bradley tells WSJM News the essays should be about the experiences of a World War II or Korean War vet from the student’s community. We asked her about some previous entries.

“We had one young lady who wrote about her two uncles, and intertwined their stories, which was very interesting, and we had a young lady who just took a local World War II veteran who was a woman, and shared her story back into the community,” Bradley said.

Bradley says there’s also a eulogy and video element to the contest. There will be one winner for the sixth through eighth grade level, and one winner for the ninth through twelfth grade level.
