Residents of Benton Harbor and people who work in Benton Harbor take note — the new city income tax will be due this month. City Manager Darwin Watson updated everyone at this week’s city commission meeting.

“Income tax returns are due April 30 of this year, not April 15 like the other one,” Watson said.

The tax is 1% for city residents, and 0.5% for non-residents who work in the city. As of mid-March, Benton Harbor’s income tax had raised about $1.3 million. The money is to be spent on emergencies, street repairs, alley work, and sewer work. You can find the city income tax form at BHCity.us. Or, you can go to city hall.
