The old home of the Detroit Pistons is reportedly about to change hands. Crain’s Detroit Business and The Detroit News report Livonia-based developers Schostak Brothers & Company has a contract to buy the vacant Auburn Hills arena and the land it’s on. Auburn Hills Mayor Kevin McDaniel says the property was rezoned for research and development.

“We definitely see value in the high tech and research and we know that several developers have inquired about the property. I know Schostak to be one of them,” says McDaniel. “I don’t know whether it’s confirmed they’re in some sort of purchase agreement.”

The final event at the Palace was a Bob Seger concert on September 23, 2017. The arena was the home of the Detroit Pistons from 1988 to 2017. The International Hockey League’s Detroit Vipers also played there from 1994 to 2001, and it was the site for hockey legend Gordie Howe’s final game, played for the Vipers in 1997. He was on the ice for one shift to set a record he knew Wayne Gretzky couldn’t break, and that was to play professional hockey in six consecutive decades.
