The city of South Haven was able to get some federal dollars to have the Army Corps of Engineers do some dredging in the harbor this year. Assistant City Manager and Harbormaster Kate Hosier told WSJM News what’s happening.

“Beginning this week, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has allowed King Company to come into the harbor and dredge the central navigation channel starting west of the Dyckman Bridge all the way out into the channel,” Hosier said.

The Army Corps of Engineers will take about 45,000 cubic yards of sand out of the harbor, and taking it 1,900 feet south of the south pier to nourish the beaches. Hosier adds that the harbor dredging also gives deeper drafted boats more clearance in the dredged areas.
