More than 90 FIRST Robotics teams from all over Michigan will be in Detroit this week for the FIRST Robotics World Championship. Set to take place Wednesday through Saturday at Ford Field and Cobo Center, the event will give the participating students a chance to show off what they have learned. Consumers Energy Vice President of Public Affairs Roger Curtis tells WSJM News it’s quite a lot.

“You have physics, you have math, you have computer science, you have English, marketing,” Curtis said. “More important, maybe most importantly, what FIRST Robotics does is teach these students the skills that employers are really seeking. Communication, collaboration, critical thinking, perseverance.”

Consumers Energy is a sponsor for the FIRST Robotics event this week. Curtis says a total of around 15,000 students from 25 states and four countries will be there. Taking part are the FIRST Robotics teams from St. Joseph and Berrien Springs.
