A lawsuit is being prepared by Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel over PFAS contamination throughout Michigan. She is planning to sue Minnesota-based 3M, the maker of the chemical, which is considered a likely cancer-causing carcinogen.

“You can absolutely expect to see something in regard to litigation against 3M and some of the other chemical manufacturers very soon,” Nessel told reporters at the state Capitol. “We’re coordinating requests for proposals to work with firms that have a lot of expertise and have filed similar cases in other states. We intend to be as aggressive as possible.”

Her lawsuit announcement comes as another PFAS site has been found, this time in Hartford. Levels of the chemical have been discovered that are around 125-times higher than the advisory level in the groundwater around the closed Du-Well Metal Products plating facility. The company has been closed for more than 20 years. The state will be testing the wells of 50 homes nearby, and that outreach began today.
