The Southwest Michigan Planning Commission will hold a summit on trails in Van Buren County next month. Senior Planner Marcy Hamilton tells WSJM News the commission is putting together a seven-county trail plan for the Michigan Department of Transportation. It’s holding meetings throughout the region to get input from the public on what is needed in each county so there can be a robust, connected trail system.

“We’re doing six other counties in June, and then we’ll take all of the input from those summits and complete the plan and it’ll come out probably by the end of September,” Hamilton said.

Hamilton says Berrien County’s summit was held over the winter. Van Buren County’s trail meeting will be on Tuesday, June 11 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Van Buren Conference Center in Lawrence, and everyone’s invited. Cass County’s meeting will be June 5 at the same times at Southwestern Michigan College.
