Lawmakers Talk Road Funding

State Representative Beth Griffin of Mattawan says the budget process this year is going a little slower than usual. She tells WSJM News the Michigan Senate is ahead of the House on putting together next year’s spending plan. The reason things are dragging? Roads.

“The Republican caucus, we’re looking at efficiencies and how to better use the money that’s in the Michigan transportation fund so that we can put as much money toward roads in the general fund as we can before we talk about any potential tax increase,” Griffin said.

Griffin says it may not be realistic to expect the budget to be approved by the usual goal in June. She tells us about half of the House appropriations subcommittees have their plans put together.
