With suicide as the second leading cause of death in Michigan for those between the ages of 15 and 34 in 2017, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services is spreading the word about its suicide prevention resources. Spokesperson Lynn Sutfin tells us the state’s portal is at Michigan.gov/SuicidePrevention.

“It provides information, communications, a took kit, the crisis line, fact sheets, information about training, and information about the suicide prevention lifeline as well,” Sutfin said,

Sutfin says warning signs that a loved one may be struggling with thoughts of suicide include becoming socially withdrawn, losing interest in hobbies, changes in their sleep and eating habits, and talking about being a burden to others. She says it’s important to talk to someone showing those signs. The state helpline can connect you with someone who has suicide prevention training. It’s 1-800-273-TALK.
