A growing number of Michigan residents are playing a version of To Catch a Predator, and police want it to stop. Michigan State Police Lieutenant Liz Rich says it’s happening across the country. It started here about six months ago. Vigilantes taking to the internet looking for those trolling for underage sex.

“They’re posing as underage children, and they’re having conversations with different individuals, and then what they’re doing is recording those conversations, and then setting up a meet out in the general population, in the general public in areas like shopping centers and big stores, and confronting them,” Rich said. “They’re videotaping those conversations.”

Rich says in a recent incident in Grand Rapids, the vigilante brought along a gun. She fears these vigilante games could become violent.
