The next phase of construction at Pilgrim Haven Natural Area in South Haven Township will get underway at the start of July. Abonmarche will be paving the existing gravel parking lot and putting in two new pit toilets, new walkways and benches, building a new rain garden, and putting in a kayak rack for the Lake Michigan Water Trail, which runs adjacent to Pilgrim Haven. It’s expected the work will be done in the first week of August.

The 27-acre parcel includes 800 feet of Lake Michigan shoreline and is owned by the Southwest Michigan Land Conservancy. It’s maintained by the South Haven Area Recreation Authority, which includes the city of South Haven, South Haven Charter Township, and South Haven Public Schools. Previous improvements have included the creation of a fully accessible walkway to the shore of Lake Michigan, the development of a parking lot, informational signage and fencing and access constructed on the property.
