Legislation from state Representative Beth Griffin is intended to make it easier for those injured in auto crashes to get pain treatment from a chiropractor. Griffin tells WSJM News the current auto insurance law doesn’t allow chiropractors to get reimbursed for some treatments while regular doctors can.

“This bill that I have for the chiropractors allows them to be reimbursed for some procedures that doctors already get reimbursement for under the auto no fault system,” Griffin said.

Griffin says many people with pain from injuries can get relief from chiropractors instead of seeking out drugs.

“If you are a patient who was injured in a car accident and you wanted to be treated by your chiropractor, in some cases depending on the service, you might have to go back to your doctor for something that your chiropractor is already doing but doesn’t get reimbursed for.”

Griffin told us the plan will help chip away at the rate of opioid prescriptions. Griffin’s bill has received approval from the state House Insurance Committee, and she hopes for a full House vote soon.
