State Representative Pauline Wendzel is holding a town hall this week on road funding and auto insurance reform. Wendzel tells WSJM News those are the two topics she and other state lawmakers hear about the most. On hand for Thursday’s meeting will be lawmakers who worked on the recently-passed auto insurance reform bill.

“We did pass auto no-fault insurance legislation, and hopefully that will start lowering auto insurance, but it’s a little complicated, and so I wanted to bring an expert down on that,” Wendzel said. “[State Representative] Jason Wentworth, who was the lead on that. We also have Aric Nesbitt.”

Nesbitt, a state senator out of Lawton, was the sponsor of the Senate reform bill. Wendzel says they’ll talk about why reforms included in the plan will take a few years to implement. As for road funding, Wendzel says she and state Senator Kim LaSata will talk about the House and Senate infrastructure plans.

“We’re exploring a lot of new avenues, things that maybe haven”t been done before, looking at different ways to spend taxpayer money in a smarter way.”

The Berrien County Road Department’s Jason Latham will also be on hand to provide a more local perspective. Wendzel’s town hall will be Thursday at Kinexus in Benton Harbor from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.
