Now at the southern U.S. border on a fact finding mission is Congressman Fred Upton. He told WSJM News earlier this week he and 15 other members of the bipartisan Problem Solvers Caucus were to ship out Thursday to see the border crisis firsthand.

“It’s my understanding that we’re going to go to one of the detention facilities,” Upton said. “We’re going to go to points of entry, we’re going to be talking, and we’re going to travel together commercially.”

Upton says the goal is to come up with a comprehensive plan for addressing the trouble at the border.

“[We’ll see] what we can do to try to alleviate that and see if we can be a driving force to try and get it resolved in terms of what really has to happen versus allowing nothing to happen and only perpetuating the problem.”

On Thursday, the acting secretary of the Department of Homeland Security testified before the House Oversight and Reform Committee. He asked Congress to do something to slow the influx of migrants at the border, saying it’s in that body’s power to take action.
