The South Bend International Airport held a celebration this past week as its new Federal Inspection Station was opened. Airport Director Mike Daigle tells WSJM News the station will expand the possibilities for flights at South Bend International.

“From this point forward, we can get commercial international flights to arrive into South Bend,” Daigle said. “Prior to this, we could only do the corporate and general aviation international arrivals, and so this is the next step forward into the growth of international service into and out of South Bend.”

Daigle says having the Federal Inspection Station gives the airport another tool to seek out new routes at South Bend International. The first international flight to arrive thanks to the station was welcomed Tuesday. It was a 747 carrying the Liverpool Soccer Club, which has a match soon at Notre Dame.
