With the September 30 deadline fast approaching, there’s still no deal in place for a state budget. Governor Gretchen Whitmer says leaders on both sides took a vacation instead of working on a plan. She spoke to Michigan News Network.

“I’m still imploring them to get back to work and get this done,” Whitmer said. “No one else can take their vacation before they get their work done, and the budget is the most important thing that any legislative session has to work on. It’s time for them to get back and to get this done so we can fix the roads and close the skills gap and educate our kids.”

Infrastructure and education funding have been the sticking points so far. Whitmer says it’s the first time in nine years the legislature took a vacation before finishing the budget.
