Opening Friday will be a new way for the public to buy fresh produce from local growers. The Benton Harbor Fruit Market at 1891 Territorial Road will reopen its retail area for the first time in about 20 years. Director Matt McManus tells WSJM News he started operating the place in June, and it’s been doing business with commercial buyers who come for local produce.

“We had Traverse City cherries this last week, and we have products coming from as far as Indiana, but primarily it’s right here in Berrien County,” McManus said.

The front of the facility will go public on Friday from 8 a.m. to noon.

“The retail area will be opened, and we look forward to being able to provide some fantastic, extremely fresh produce directly from the farm at very good prices.”

The retail space will also be open Saturday and Sunday. McManus says it feels great to get the place operating once again. Renovations are underway at the market, and so he asks visitors to pardon their dust.
