A bill to standardize technology to prevent drunk driving is being offered by Congresswomen Debbie Dingell. The Dearborn Democrat says the loss of a Northville family to a drunk driver on a Kentucky highway has prompted her to move forward.

“July is the deadliest month for drunk driving. Across the country, families and loved ones are repeating what our community went through in January. It’s time. Congress has to step up and do something,” said Dingell.

She added when it comes to advancing vehicle technology to prevent people who are drunk from being able to drive, “we’ve got to get it done faster.”

The bill would mandate passive alcohol detection systems in all new cars by 2024.
