The St. Joseph City Commission is bringing back a city hall veteran for a few more years. Former city finance director Deb Koroch is returning to that position following her retirement in June 2016. Koroch had been brought back on an interim basis this year after her successor, Sara McCallum, left for a new job in Ann Arbor. The city commission search committee of Mayor Pro Tem Laura Goos and Commissioner Peggy Getty met with city staff on Friday to go over the applications for the job, and felt no one could stack up to the experience Koroch would bring with her 16 years with the city.

Due to her previous retirement, she won’t be eligible to be part of the city’s retirement system this time, and says she plans to serve in the position for two to three years and give the city commission six to 12 months notice when she’s ready to step down for good. Koroch will be working from home while looking for somewhere to live in the St. Joseph area as she currently lives in Florida.
