When Bob Klint heard about an effort to raise money to forgive medical debt for people financially struggling in Berrien, Cass and Van Buren counties he convinced Harbor Country Mission to join the effort. Tragically, Klint was killed in a Buchanan car crash last Friday along with his wife, daughter and a Virginia man. Klint’s family is urging that in lieu of flowers people donate money to Harbor Country Mission and the medical debt relief effort.

David Heyn is Director at Harbor Country Mission. He says Klint had a deep desire to help the poor and he worked with Harbor Country Mission to do that.

“When I became the director Bob jumped right in as a volunteer and had a lot of passion for what we did. We help the working and rural poor, anyone on a low fixed income, food assistance, going through a difficult time.”

Heyn says to donate in memory of Bob Klint’s legacy you can go to Harbor Country Mission’s Facebook page. Heyn says Klint did many different things to contribute to the organization’s mission of helping people who are struggling financially.

“We did a hundred and one home repairs last year and Bob would fill in the gaps when needed on those. We sometimes help people that have slipped into homelessness. And just recently he took up a collection for a family that was really struggling as they were trying to figure out what the next steps were as they were trying to come up out of a local hotel.”

Heyn says Bob Klint had a big heart and cared deeply about the less fortunate in our communities. To make a donation in Bob Klint’s name you can drop it off at the Harbor Country Mission location on Red Arrow Highway in Bridgman or go to their Facebook page.
