It’s fair time in southwest Michigan, as the Berrien County Youth Fair gets underway Monday in Berrien Springs. The youth fair’s Jill Hein says there’s an easy way to remember when it is held.

“It’s always three weeks before Labor Day,” Hein tells WSJM News.

The Berrien County Youth Fair is the nation’s largest youth fair. While all the typical fair attractions open on Monday, there is an event tonight.

“The royalty contest is on Friday in the grandstand at 7 p.m.,” says Hein. “We have the king and queen contest and the prince and princess contest.”

The Michigan Department of Transportation is lowering the speed limit on M-139 from 500 feet west of 1st Street to 500 feet east of George Street outside of the fairgrounds during the week as well. The full schedule of events is available on the website of the Berrien County Youth Fair.
